On your first day don't forget that your luggage may take a few hours to arrive and if you are on early dining then I would recommend you go prepared. In my travel bag I would take, Medication, Swim Suit, Kindle/Book, Documentation & Travel Tags
For hot destinations then Suncream, Glasses, hat and for cold, coat, jumper, hat & gloves. I would also take something you would be happy wearing to a casual dinner just incase of any longer delays.
Don't underestimate Gala Night, it may be more casual on Royal Caribbean and Carnival with Blazer for men and a summer dress for women but on P&O and Cunard it's dress to impress where tuxedos and sequins are dazzling everywhere.
Avoid a high heel ladies, remember you are on the Ocean and a good wedge or block heel are a safer mode of transport on those rocky days.
in your cabin, pack a non surge extension lead
and a good adapter
also remember your luggage needs to stay in your room even when empty, so try and get suitcases that are soft, we have done four under the beds before now!
a good foldaway bag is handy if you are a big souvenir fan and want to have extra room on the way home!
