Puppy travel fun: adventures with Rhubarb & Custard
Read our latest news
This week was a big milestone for Rhubarb & Custard, they went on their first ever holiday! Travelling for 2 hours to the Lake District actually went really well. We timed it so they had been on a long walk and been fed then set off up the M6, they slept really well and made the journey no problem. On the way home we stopped once for a toilet break but a lot easier than we thought. Life on holiday with two puppies is usually A WALK, A COFFEE and a CAKE on repeat, have you seen this series on our YouTube channel cruising50?
We did four walks - Lowther castle to Lowther holiday park, the Railway walk in Keswick, Greystoke Hall gardens and Kingmoor Nature reserve in Carlisle.
Our coffee & cake stops were; Lowther castle cafe (dog friendly), Jaspers on Keswick (dog friendly), Greystokes cafe (sat outside with puppies) and Houghton Hall Harden centre (not really dog friendly, not allowed in any cafe areas).
On the way home our stop was Tebay services which was super dog friendly with it own area in the services.
The puppies travelled in their travel bags but one is collapsing already so taken the plunge and got travel dog beds, watch this space for next weeks review.
A great week all round, we struggled leaving them but we're glad when we were brave and got some adult time, puppies walked well with plenty of breaks to rest up.
Yorkshire next week so check back in for an update to see how we did.

Join us, Elaine and her husband from @Cruising50, as we share the delightful journey of traveling the world with our two beloved labradoodle puppies, Rhubarb and Custard! We've learned so much about international pet travel, and we're here to share our tips and experiences to make your adventures with your furry friends as smooth and joyful as ours.

Preparing for international pet travel
Traveling abroad with your beloved pets requires careful planning, but it's entirely doable! Based on our experiences with Rhubarb and Custard, we've identified key steps to ensure a stress-free journey. Always start by visiting both the .gov.uk website and the website of your destination country to understand all entry requirements. This due diligence is crucial for a smooth process.

Essential steps for your pet's journey
Before you embark, make sure your pet is microchipped, which is often a mandatory requirement. A rabies vaccination is almost always necessary for international travel, so schedule this well in advance. You will also need an animal health certificate from an authorized veterinarian. Additionally, check specific regulations regarding tapeworm treatment, as some countries require this shortly before entry. We recommend locating a vet both in your home country and at your destination.

Travel with confidence
Our goal is for you to feel confident and well-prepared for traveling with your pets. By sharing our experiences with Rhubarb and Custard – from bustling airports to scenic walks abroad – we hope to demystify the process and highlight the joy pet travel brings. We're here to answer your questions and help you navigate the journey, so you too can create unforgettable memories with your furry companions. Safe travels with your pups!
